Ayman Yossri Daydban Saudi-Palestinian, 1966
Ayman Yossri Daydban expounds on his seminal "Ihramat" series, (2012) with a new iteration titled, "Winter". The simple Ihram, a plain white cloth worn by pilgrims in Islam, has long been a perfect vehicle for the artist. The stretched material over rectangular wooden panels evoke male bodies, painterly abstractions or reliefs. The series sits neatly within the artist’s behemoth practice that has long used objects of language, religion, geography and trade as frameworks to explore themes of identity and belonging.
