"Distance Begins Where Remembrance Ends", is a field of henna powder is compressed into thin, friable tiles that rest directly on the floor, forming an expanse that solicits nearness while resisting inhabitation. The work’s material instability governs the viewer’s position: proximity is permitted only to the extent that it does not become intrusion. In this way, looking is structured as an act of restraint rather than entry. As scent rises from the surface, the installation activates embodied memories of ritual preparation and practices of care. Henna, traditionally bound to moments of transformation and adornment, here, marks a ground that is both intimate and inaccessible. The surface functions as a liminal plane, tracing the distance between spaces once inhabited and those that persist only as remembered interiors.
