Following his Art Basel Emerging Artist Award this past May, Mohammad AlFaraj has now been honored again with the prestigious Art Basel Gold Award at Art Basel Miami Beach- celebrating artists shaping the future of contemporary art.
Trained as an engineer and raised in the palm tree oasis of Al Ahsa in Saudi Arabia, he developed an early love for the camera that evolved into a multidisciplinary practice. Today, his work reads like a cinematic collage: weaving film, photography, sculpture and poetry- charged with collective memory and the search for truth.
Alfaraj is currently presenting his first institutional solo exhibition ‘Seas Are Sweet, Fish Tears Are Salty’ at Jameel Arts Centre in Dubai, curated by Rotana Shaker. Bringing together installations, photography, video works and site-specific commissions. It highlights the breadth of his evolving practice and the poetic force behind it. On view until January 4, 2026.
